Tips for Replacing the Spark Plugs in a Used Ford Focus

If you're keen to buy a used Ford Focus, or if you're a proud owner of one, it's important to know how to replace the spark plugs in your vehicle. In fact, spark plugs should be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. This will ensure that your Ford Focus runs smoothly and efficiently.

It's important to note that the previous models of the Ford Focus before 2005 all used the similar procedure for replacing their spark plugs. The replacement process firstly involves finding the spark plug in your used Ford Focus. Models from 2000 onwards have their spark plugs situated in the front and back of the engine, whereas pre-2000 models had their spark plugs along the sides.

Then, the wire boot should be twisted in order to remove the wire from the spark plug. A socket wrench with extender can now be used by sliding it over the spark plug and unscrewing it from the cylinder well. Any corrosion and dust must then be removed from the well or boot by using a wire brush. Using a silicone spray, some silicone may be sprayed inside the well. This ensures that the spark plug stays away from the engine well.

Next, the new spark plug may be installed into the well by hand. A socket with extender may then be used to tighten the spark plug into the well. A tension tester may be useful at this point to test the tension of the spark plug. Ensure that the tension is at 8 to 15 pounds. All these steps may then be repeated for all the spark plugs in your Ford Focus in order to complete the job.
